Introduction

The Asi@Connect Compendium of National Research and Education Networks 2025 provides a structured reference on the organisation, funding, infrastructure and services of NRENs across the Asia-Pacific TEIN community. It is organised by theme: organisation, funding and governance; connected users; network; services; advanced and AI-enabled services; research engagement; network traffic; and a look at where the community is heading.

The data is drawn from the Asi@Connect NREN survey covering three waves — 2018, 2020 and 2025. This edition focuses on the NRENs that responded in 2025: each chapter analyses the 2025 respondents for that topic, with earlier waves used to draw trend lines where the same NRENs reported in all three years. Where an NREN did not report a metric, this is shown as a dash (–) rather than zero.

This report is built around NREN spotlights: each chapter invites named NRENs that the data identifies as distinctive to contribute a short first-person account of their experience. Those invitation boxes appear inline. Per-NREN profile cards appear in the Appendix as a one-glance reference.
